Goldberg Variations

Her transcription is imaginative but faithful, her playing dazzling and poetic, her interpretatiion fit to stand beside Glenn Gould's and yet utterly different and captivating ................... absolutely no one could fail to enjoy it'.
John Rutter, on Catrin's performance of the Goldberg Variations, February 2009.

Bach's Goldberg Variations represents a formidable challenge even for keyboard players, and has never been played previously on the harp. This is the challenge Catrin set herself in 2007, to transcribe the piece for harp, record it, and provide for the world a new arrangement that will come to occupy a respected place in the harp repertoire.

It took Catrin a year to complete this challenge, and Deutsche Grammophon released the recording in January 2009. Watch Catrin play the Aria on youtube here:

angylion bach - little angels

It's a family affair! Catrin, playing with her mother-in-law Elinor Bennett on a new CD of lullabys from around the world, dedicated to Catrin's new baby Ana Gwen.  And recorded by husband (and father) Hywel Wigley and released on Hywel's Kissan Productions label. It's gentle and soothing, just the job for getting your little angel to sleep, but played with Catrin and Elinor's usual exuberance and flair, and with some great arrangements of popular melodies by both harpists. We hope you like it.

Harp and Big Band? - Are you mad!

But with Catrin everything is possible and this CD represents nearly two years of effort from Catrin and Hywel, with great friend Tom Watson producing most of the arrangements. Apart from the harp there's 4 trumpets, 3 saxes, 3 trombones, bass and drums. This is the debut CD from Catrin's Big Band, called CF47. It was good fun to produce, it has huge energy and we think it's great to listen to!

In Catrin's own words....'I wanted to produce a CD that was honest to how it really is live - the adrenalin, excitement and audience atmosphere that can't be captured in a dry studio'.... And with some of Catrin's favourite tracks, previously unrecorded. We hope you like it.

'The recording brings the harp faithfully into your room. It is a long time since I was so impressed with a new harpist'. (John Duarte, Gramophone Magazine, on 'From Coast to Coast', March 2003

David Hellewell (Mr D Music), Chicken Pickin' Rag. Catrin found this piece in a piano book when she was about 10 and thought it would transcribe well for harp. It's a bit of fun!
